Getting Started
Thank you for participating in the Burnaby Food First forum! To help get you started, here are some instructions and guidelines for how to use the forum.
Please make sure you review our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy before entering the forum.
Step 1: Register
- Click on ‘Register’ at the top-middle of the forum page. Only people who are registered as members can use this forum. Your personal email will never be shown. Other people can only reply to you through the forum.
- Read the Terms of Use. If you agree, click "I agree to the Terms of Use".
- Enter the registration information that is requested. Remember to scroll all the way to the bottom and to answer all the required questions.
- After you register, you will receive an email from Motigo, sent on our behalf, asking you to confirm your registration. Follow the steps in the email. If you do not see the email, please check your Junk mail folder.
- After you have confirmed your registration, you can sign in.
- Returning members can access the forum by clicking Login at the top-middle of the forum page.
- As you will see when you enter the forum, there are range of different topics available for participation. Choose the forum area you’d like to participate in to get started. For example, if you are interested in the Sharing Backyards program, scroll down the page until you see the Sharing Backyards header.
- Click on the topic you’d like to participate in.
- Before you create a new post, please check existing posts, or "threads", to make sure no one has posted something similar to you already. For example, if you have a question about the Apron Project, skim through or search the forum for your topic before you post.
- To post to the forum, click on the New Thread icon at the far right-hand side of your screen.
- Type in your message. Click "Send" when you are ready to post.
- Remember to indicate if you’d like to be notified by email when someone responds to your thread.
- Note: When posting more than one new thread, you will be asked to wait 60 seconds between each one.
- Spend some time getting to know how the Burnaby Food First forum works!
- Search: To search the forum, click on the Search icon at the top of the screen. When searching, you will have to choose the forum category you would like to look in (e.g. Sharing Backyards – Program Information) to get results.
- Private Message: A private message is like an email, viewable only by the people you send them to. To Private Message another user, click on the icon at the top of the screen. Click "Write private message" at the top-left of your screen. If you know the user name of the individual you are messaging, you can enter it into the "Recipient" box or use the "Search User" link. If you do not know the user name of the individual you want to message, exit this part of the forum and find a thread posted by that user. Click on their user name in the thread, and select the Private Message icon on their Profile page.
Step 5: Have Fun!
- Make some connections, and enjoy using the Burnaby Food First forum!
The administrators and moderators of this forum try to edit or delete posts with questionable content as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, it is not possible to always check every single post individually.
Therefore, you agree not to post or publish content which is offensive, obscene, vulgar, defamatory, hateful, violent or illegal content of any sort. Racist content as well as any invasion on the privacy or impersonation of others are not allowed.
Violations to these rules will lead to immediate and permanent deletion of your account.
